Have you all heard of "oil pulling?" We recently have. We are trying it, and are eager to hear what people have to say!
.
WHAT is it: It is essentially using coconut oil to rinse out your mouth... for a really long time!!!!
.
You can use other oils but coconut oil is most recommmended because of its high lauric acid content - which has strong antibacterial qualities. We are not here to get into the big coconut oil debate (more on that later tho). We are not talking about eating it so save those comments for later:).
.
ROOTS: Dates back to Ayurvedic medicine - a 5,000 year old natural healing system rooted in India to help cure systemic disease like chronic migraines, diabetes, and more (not scientifically proven).
.
HOW to do it: Take 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it in your mouth & through your teeth, on an EMPTY stomach for...wait for it...20 minutes 🤨. We are trying it first thing in the morning and so far...not so bad.
.
Alleged benefits: Whiter teeth😁, increased energy, detoxification, headache and hangover cure 🥂, improves sleep, prevents gingivitis, strengthen’s teeth and gums 💪.
.
TIPS: Don't swallow the oil! If all his is true then this means that oil is full of all that nasty bacteria floating around in your mouth so spit that out! BUT...
Don't spit down the sink, the oil can clog your pipes... spit into a bag or tissue and throw in trash😬.
.
It should be mentioned that the American Dental Association does not support any claims that oil pulling should supplement or replace standard oral health practices. There are additional risks of the oil being ingested into your lungs if not done properly and that can lead to pneumonia. Nothing is without possible side effects and harm, right? Can't a girl just get some white teeth in peace!?
We have been trying this for a week now and do feel that it has helped with whitening our teeth although maybe that is all in our heads....have you tried this? If so, share your experiences or thoughts!
