Wheatgrass is our new thing! With so many people touting the benefits we had to see what the fuss was about. The taste is well... grassy but kinda sweet. However the potential benefits bring me back for more. Wheatgrass is a concentrated source of nutrients. It contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, iron, calcium, magnesium, and amino acids. We don't believe in miracle cure's and thus far wheatgrass is not unlike many other green leafy vegetables as far as nutritional benefits - but where it does shine as unique is that it contains chlorophyll which is an important blood builder.
Chlorophyll is the chemical in plants responsible for photosynthesis (are you smarter than a 5th grader?). For those that do not remember what that means it is how plants absorb light energy and turn it into chemical energy. Right. So what's that mean for us, after all, we are not plants. Well, some suggested benefits of this magical chemical (not necessarily supported by science) include:
🌱Anti-aging | clearer skin (you had me at anti-aging)
🌱Helps reduce inflammation with those suffering from ulcerative colitis
🌱Prevention/treatment of anemia by increasing hemoglobin production
🌱Helps w/ High blood pressure
🌱Reducing cholesterol therefore improving overall cardiovascular health
🌱Detoxifier - removes drugs, metals, toxins, and cancer-causing substances from the body
🌱Wound healing
What are your thoughts? Is this just another hyped out "it" superfood or the real deal? We personally believe anything green must be good for you (we are kidding...sort of).
If you have allergies to gluten, wheat, or well...grass (duh)...then wheatgrass is probably not the best choice for you. Some side effects have been reported such as nausea and/or constipation (we have not experienced any of that) but overall this has been deemed safe by the medical community. And we can all agree it is probably better than other shots that you may be more accustom to taking. So detoxify that tequila shot last night with a wheatgrass shot this morning and hope for the best! #gogreen
